This year at Thanksgiving I would like to offer my gratitude for all the support for our studio that you have expressed over the years. The feedback we have received has been extremely positive, and I am truly humbled to be able to offer classes that have been described as a supplement for injury rehabilitation by our local medical community. There is something special about seeing students who arrive with nagging injuries overcome those injuries through the BIM Yoga System.
As I so often say, “I can’t fix your injuries, but I can teach you good biomechanics that may offer an opportunity to rehabilitate your injuries through yoga.” I regularly hear from students arriving to class for the first time that a former student has sent them to BIM saying, “Oh, you’re injured? You’ve got to go see Mike.” It’s been rewarding to witness so much healing at the studio, but again; I don’t heal you… I teach you how you can heal yourself.
The support for what we do at the studio has been quantifiable in that we have received the most votes for the Cambridge Times Reader’s Choice Awards five years in a row in the Best Yoga Studio category. Currently the votes are being counted up as the closing for this year’s awards was Sunday night. I thank each and every one of you who took the time to vote for us. I want to express how grateful I am to have the kind and thoughtful students that make up our BIM family.
As I reflect on the 17 years I have been a yoga instructor here in Cambridge, I’m thrilled to have so many students who still come to class each week from back when I taught for the Recreation Department. I really appreciate your loyalty to what has become known as our BIM Yoga System. You may have noticed it has not changed much over the years but the welcome addition of Level 4 & 5 has increased the challenge for those that used to frequent the “Yoga with Mike” programs Level 1, 2 & 3 back at the Recreation Centres.
Certainly support comes in the form of the dream team staff here at BIM and I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Heni and Kim who keep the business wheels turning. Your support for the studio cannot be understated. I cannot thank you both enough. In fact I would like to extend thanks to Heni’s entire family including her Sister Reni, Brother-in-law Norbert, and of course Heni’s Husband Viktor for all the help with information technology.
Also I want to express thanks for the support from our volunteers, who wanted to help us out because they believe in our ‘karmic project.’ Barb, Victoria, Colleen, Petra, Jill, and recently Jill’s husband John, have all made such wonderful contributions to our success. I would also like to make special mention of Sue for her hard work getting us ‘over the hump’ and for the many years of support for the studio thereafter, and also thanks to Sue’s Daughter Shelby for helping out at many events and being a big fan of what we do here.
My family sure puts up with a lot of absence since I am here at the studio so much. My Daughters Delannie and Kade have put in a lot of hours working here doing the inglorious work of cleaning bathrooms, garbage detail, filing paperwork, and spring & fall clean up. Delannie has also offered her photography for many events and our walls are graced with her beautiful flower photos. Kade has rendered many drawings for the BIM Yoga Teacher Training Manual adding a stunning professional look to the book. My wife Karen has ‘towed the line’ at home while I have been putting in 60-70 hour work weeks often. Big thanks for all the support from home!
My Sister Nikki, who lives in Pickering, has been so supportive of the studio over the years and on occasion makes a surprise visit, much to my delight since I don’t see her as often as I would like. Nikki is the BPHE student and in so many ways my inspiration for what I do. It was really great to see my Nephews, Dakota, Keegan and Darius over the weekend, all of whom made a point of visiting with their ol’ uncle. I would also like to express how my oldest Daughter Jordan, who lives in Bowmanville, has been extremely understanding in that I have not been as available as I would like. At summer’s end it was wonderful to have a couple of visits and meet the new addition to our family my Granddaughter Sora and of course some playtime with my two Grandsons Conner and Calum.
Most of all I would like to express how sincerely thankful I am to have you the students attending class each week. Your loyalty to our yoga practice is what keeps the studio going and you truly make my job so incredibly special. I couldn’t have imagined that I would have such amazing students when I first started to teach. It’s been an honour to get to know you and have a few laughs along the way while watching the yoga techniques work to meet your goals. Thanks for your support.
